From Dr. Marc Bertrando: Due to the incoming winter weather, Garnet Valley School District will implement a Flexible Instruction Day (FID) tomorrow, Thursday, February 6th. All schools will operate remotely, and district offices will be closed with staff working virtually.

My hope is that this early notification allows families to plan ahead for the day and ensures that our teachers have time to prepare materials, adjust lessons, and communicate expectations to their students. By making this decision now, we aim to minimize disruption while providing a structured learning experience for all.

This uncertain forecast is exactly why FIDs are so useful. Overnight, we expect a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain, which could create hazardous travel conditions in the morning—or, in the best case, just a cold rainstorm. Given the potential for slick roads and freezing temperatures, a FID allows learning to continue without risking unnecessary closures or dangerous commutes.

While remote learning isn’t a perfect substitute for in-person instruction, it provides a practical middle ground, ensuring both safety and instructional continuity. Students should be prepared to follow their remote learning schedule as outlined by their teachers.

What This Means for Students & Families:

  • Students will follow their FID schedules from home.

  • Student devices should be fully charged and ready to use.

  • For details on FID and/or tech support, visit the district’s FID web page by CLICKING HERE.

Thank you for your flexibility as we navigate unpredictable winter weather. We look forward to resuming in-person learning on Friday.

Stay safe! Dr. Marc Bertrando, Superintendent
