Just this past weekend in Coatesville at the District 1 Championship, Garnet Valley’s Boys Track Team managed to break three records, take 1st, 2nd, and 5th place in different events, and set new personal PRs.
On day one of the meet, Jon Wert, a junior on the team, beat his own personal PR and his previously set school record in the semi-finals of the100m race, running a 10.57. Cole Hoffacker, another junior on the team, also hit a personal PR during the race, running a 10.77. Both boys' record speeds sent them straight to the 100m finals, where they competed side by side.
On day two, the boys went in ready, and their results did not disappoint. Jon Wert placed 2nd and Cole Hoffacker placed 5th, earning both of them a spot in States for the 100m event.
Also competing solo on day two, Colin Quinney, a senior discus thrower on the team, finished 17th overall. GVHS had three runners compete in the 200m race as well: Shane Miller, sophomore; Koan Sinor, senior; and Jon Wert, junior. Jon Wert placed 5th overall in the event, granting him his 2nd qualification into the State Championship.
The team's biggest accomplishment this weekend both broke records and earned a 1st place district title: the track team's 4x100m race team. Jon Wert, Cole Hoffacker, Shane Miller, and Koan Sinor all raced in the event. These outstanding boys not only broke the school 4x100m record with their 41.25 time, but also the District 1 record. Their time earned them the first-place title in the event and qualified them for States. Not only are these boys headed into the State Championship next weekend with two records, they are headed in ranked 2nd overall in Pennsylvania.
Overall at the District 1 Track Meet of the 2025 season, Garnet Valley’s Boys Track Team finished 6th. Best of luck to all Garnet Valley track athletes at the PA State Meet next weekend, and congratulations on these huge accomplishments!
