GVPAA's Upcoming Show - 42nd Street!

It’s that time of the year again! The drama club is proud to announce that they will be performing an amazing production of 42nd Street this November 21, 22, and 23. There are so many talented people in this show and they are excited to put on an astounding musical for the whole community. Look out for the ticket link, coming soon!

In 1933 New York City, dance director Andy Lee auditions kids for the chorus of a new show, Pretty Lady. Peggy Sawyer, who misses the initial audition, is helped by Billy, the romantic lead, to see the producer, Julian Marsh. Marsh, concerned about the cast, especially leading lady Dorothy Brock, is convinced to let Dorothy avoid auditions due to her financial backer. Peggy, who forgets her purse, impresses Julian and gets a job in the chorus after a lively dance number. As rehearsals progress, conflicts arise between Dorothy, her boyfriend Pat, and her backer Abner Dillon. Peggy faints from exhaustion but is later found in Dorothy's dressing room, leading to a misunderstanding about Pat. With the show opening in Philadelphia, Dorothy’s intoxicated outburst leads Abner to threaten to close the show, but the cast convinces him otherwise.

The show opens successfully, but a mishap injures Dorothy, leading Julian to fire Peggy. However, with Dorothy's injury, Julian persuades Peggy to return, giving her 36 hours to learn everything needed. Peggy rises to the challenge, and Pretty Lady opens successfully, with Peggy becoming a sudden sensation, celebrated in the finale of "42nd Street."
