How To Get Involved at GVHS

Do you want to get involved in school somehow but don't know how? Are you thinking about joining NAHS in your junior year? Lend a helping hand to school or need something to keep you busy some days? In this article, I'll tell you all about getting involved at GVHSl!

Clubs are a great way to get to know people, learn and craft new things, gain volunteer hours, and obtain leadership positions. Some popular clubs include the Science Olympiad (Scioly). Scioly is a popular club where you learn and study about different sciences. It has 23 events, and you can also attend regional and state competitions. Speech and Debate is a popular club with seven speech events and three debate events. In speech and Debate, you gain experience and practice public speaking, and you also go to competitions like districts, states, regionals, and even nationals. The Drama Club is one of the most popular clubs in the school. In Drama, you participate in the yearly musical in either cast or crew, which this year is 42nd Street. Another great club to join is the Interact club. In this club, you help with school functions and gain volunteer hours (Total of 20).

You can become a lab assistant if you are a Chem student (Ask Chem teacher what grade). Lab assistants help Biology and/or Chemistry teachers set up labs in advisory or learn 1 or 2. This can help you if you want to gain experience in labs and pursue something in the science or medical field in the future.

Last but not least, the Student Council (STUCO). Although STUCO is a club, it's a bit different than others; for Student Council, you must complete a form with multiple questions about yourself, and then there will be an interview with yourself and another student council officer. In STUCO, you help plan events like the Blood drive, Car wash, etc. You also get to choose and plan the next homecoming dance, so if you are creative and want to put your skill to use, try trying out for student council!

GVHS has a plethora of clubs and associations to join! Use this as a guide when looking to join a new activity.
