Garnet Valley’s Model United Nations team attended the Ivy League Model UN conference this past weekend, and several delegates even won awards.
Model United Nations is a simulation where delegates represent different countries from around the world and engage in lively debate on pressing topics that the world faces today. Garnet Valley represented the countries of Spain and Ghana and attended many different committees tackling technology, economics, social issues, and more.
The team left on Thursday during lunch and learn and returned on Sunday around noon. They stayed at the Marriott in center city Philadelphia, where the conference was held. Delegates spent up to 16+ hours in committee discussing many numerous topics. That currently requires real world solutions. Garnet Valley students came up with their own policies and solutions they wanted to push and try to get into the final resolution at the end of committee. Other than committees, ILMUNC also offers several fun events such as the delegate dance and the delegate fair. While this year the delegate dance was canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, the group went to dinner together attending various restaurants.
The delegates from Garnet Valley that won awards were:
Honorable Mention (3rd place)
Representing Spain in the United Nations Human Rights Council - Eashan Chawak and Saharsh Narasingolu
Representing Spain in the Commission on the Status of Women - Nandana Padmaraj and Anvi Vallabhaneni
Outstanding Delegates (2nd place)
Representing Ghana in the African Union - Trisha Srivastava and Zander Sereni
Representing Spain in the World Intellectual Property Organization - Saanvi Akurati and Teagan Moyer
