10 Things to Hate About Summer

While I sure hope you don't hate summer, I think we can all agree there are some things that make the season unlikeable to say the least. I'm going to list some of these the things you may hate... besides the excessive heat and humidity. If you actually like some of the things I list then we'll have to agree to disagree.
1. Wasps, Mosquitos, and Pesky Insects
If you are not attacked by bugs at some point during the summer then I'm going to assume you are spending your summer in Antartica. A few weeks ago a mud dauber wasp somehow got past my window screen and began to roam around the room (also if anyone knows how ladybugs or stinkbugs can get through a window screen in some way... please let me know). I've also encountered frogs that love to startle the living daylights out of me and oddly enough a groundhog which is cute but concerning. That just about summarizes my feelings.
2. Sunburn and Tan-lines
I can't relate to this one... although I hate sunscreen, if I know I'll sweat or have to shower either way, I'm layering it on. Sunscreen is your friend (trust me) because yes sunburn is possible and awful and I'm assuming skin cancer is also not fun. Tan-lines are another story that are unavoidable unless you wear the most questionable clothing possible.
3. Melting Ice-cream and Dripping Watermelon
I haven't had too much problems with this because after all, you don't just hold ice cream... you lick it and eat it. The same goes for watermelon, it won't drip if you eat your piece. I still thing this is a worthy item because things happen, for example having to hold your friends ice cream but not being able to eat it.
4. Sweating/Smelling
While you may or may not smell, everyone sweats. Sweat is part of the deal during the summer and for me it isn't annoying until it drips into my eyes or wisps of hair stick to my face OR clothing which should be comfortable... gets uncomfortable.
5. Crowded Tourist Spots and Long Lines
If you are like many regular Americans, you'll be traveling and you can expect to encounter long lines. This may be at the airport, your favorite ice cream shop, or the Colosseum in Italy. If you want to avoid long lines, my suggestion is to lock yourself in your house, buy tickets ahead of time, or go to places people usual don't visit.
6. Working
Not everyone works but if you don't and your parents do, have some sympathy for their struggles and try to not make their life too hard. If you enjoy working, GOOD FOR YOU! Go do some work, get money, and go buy ice cream or do something fun with friends/family.
7. Other People Having Fun
Unless you are also having your own fun, you may not get jealous. This is why I encourage you to step back from the comforts of social media and try to make the most of your summer. After all, the summer seems to be getting shorter and shorter, not like elementary school summers (at least in my eyes).
8. Summer Work (nearly forgot about this)
I think on some level many high school students forget about summer work and choose to do it at the last minute. If you're like me, then the work seems to linger in your mind and you're itching to get it done so you can travel and spend your summer at ease. All I can say is that while it may absolutely stink, try to get it done and not procrastinate too too much.
9. Allergies (if you have them)
I don't have allergies and I really have no clue what it feels like to have them. If you do have allergies though, I can assume it's not a great feeling to want to go outside but also at the same time trying the avoid pollen. If you are allergic to grass or the sun... I'm sorry but then I really have no clue what you are going through.
10. Summer Ending
I had to put this in, I just had to. This is a reminder that yes, there are some things to hate about summer, BUT it's a much needed break that I know many appreciate. SO "Summer Ending" goes on this list because at some level it's an unfortunate but inevitable thing as time continues ticking. That being said, ENJOY YOUR SUMMER WHILE IT LASTS (AND TRY TO FORGET ABOUT THE THINGS YOU SHOULD HATE ABOUT IT)!
