Lace up your running shoes as we get closer to Thanksgiving because the Garnet Valley Turkey Trot is here! With both a 5K and 1-mile run/walk, this community event on November 28th is inclusive for all ages. Don't worry if you're not a seasoned runner; you can simply walk or jog with family, friends, and even strollers! This event is the perfect way to kickstart your holiday festivities while supporting the Healthy Kids Running Series, an organization that strives to help kids lead a healthy lifestyle.
If you're not looking to run/walk but still want to be involved, consider signing up to volunteer! Volunteers can get service hours while still enjoying the excitement of the race. There is lots to do to run a successful event: help with registration, directing the runners through the course, giving medals, providing refreshments, setting/cleaning up, and more!
Another way join in on the festivities is to simply show up, walk around, and talk to others! If you are feeling even more festive consider dressing up as a turkey! Why would you do that? You may win the special Turkey Day prize awarded to the best dressed group, adult turkey & kid turkey. Also it's just fun and silly, so go for it!
For those interested in running, consider training for the 5K and brush off those couch potato crumbs! Here is a website you can use to help you: https://www.verywellfit.com/how-to-train-for-a-5k-in-two-weeks-2910856. The best part is ALL participants in the 5K and 1 mile receive a long sleeve shirt, race bib, and medal! If you're feeling ambitious you can even go for the cash prize which is awarded to the top 3 overall 5k male and female finishers.
