You might be hearing that quite a bit of people are visiting the movie theater to watch Inside Out 2... but is it worth the hype? When asking some GVHS friends what their opinion was, they rated it on the high end of the scale with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best. Ratings were between 6.5 to 8, generally getting thumbs up from all surveyors. Personally I would rate this movie an 8 because while the plot wasn't too exciting, they shared a great message. Moreover, I felt as though the additional emotions truly captured my own thoughts and feelings which was nice to relate to.
What to like? What to dislike?
As you may know, Riley, the main character in Inside Out 2, gets some new emotions which cause quite the commotion at headquarters. The emotions now have to tackle a new issue at hand... who is in charge and which emotion will dominate? Here are some of the students thoughts:
"I liked the character but it did not live up to my expectations as it was too predictable."
"I think it did a good job portraying what it's like to grow up and experience mental and physical changes. I also thought it had a proper balance of comedic and heartfelt scenes, which I liked. I disliked the fact that it was kind of cringey (although most disney movies are I just didn't realize when I was younger)."
I think this is where I need to agree to disagree because while the plot was simple... I felt that I was still following along and didn't quite know what to expect. However I do agree that the portrayal of all the new emotions was on point and for any students entering high school, I do believe they would agree on some scale. It seemed that Embarrassment was a hit as most surveyors chose him as their favorite character. I myself don't have a particular favorite because I think that all the characters truly play some role in the movie.
So I guess the question is: should you go to the movie theaters to watch it? Answer: Sure... but if you wait until it's out of the theaters that's okay... and if you don't watch it it's also fine. I'm guessing that's not the answer you were looking for but frankly I think the movie is only half the experience. It's about who you're with (friends or family), what you do (whether going out to dinner before or having a whole bucket of popcorn during the movie), and ironically how you feel. Just enjoy all the moments and if you have someone to watch with, go and enjoy.
