Don't worry, I won't include any spoilers! What I will say is that this movie is a must-watch! Just last night I went out with my family to the local Regal Brandywine Town Center to watch the recently released Gladiator II movie. About a month ago I watched the first Gladiator movie released in 2000 so watching the second one shortly after was great.
So what were my thoughts of the overall movie? 8/10. The graphics were solid however I do have to warn younger viewers that there are occasional clips with gore. The cast was equally exquisite and I do want to add a quick shout out to Pedro Pascal, playing as General Acacius, who has played as the Mandalorian in The Mandalorian (personal fav). The movie also includes other notable actors including Joseph Quinn (previously played Eddie Munson in Stranger Things) and Connie Nielson (fun fact: played same character in the first Gladiator).
You must be wondering, why was the movie not a 10/10? While I still recommend watching the movie, the plot itself wasn't too exciting but the characters did an excellent job carrying out their roles. If you haven't watch the first Gladiator movie, the movie rating can easily fall down to a 6/10 simply because it's hard to follow along with everyone's relationship. Watching the first movie enhances the second as it follows the connections between the characters and makes the whole plot more meaningful/heartfelt. Long story short, watch the first movie to add some "wow factor" to the second. Some critics believe Gladiator II struggles to live up to the monumental success of its predecessor and has a predictable plot. I see how this may be true but having watched the first movie and even visiting the colosseum in person, my views differ.
Still not sure if this movie is for you? My advice is to watch the first movie which is an easy 10/10 considering the plot and how it tugs on your heart. You'll know if you are feeling up for the second one or if you want to simply end strong and on a high note. The second movie doesn't significantly add to the plot so you wouldn't be missing on too much. That's a wrap! I hope my advice was helpful (otherwise there is always Google ;)). If you are looking to watch a different movie genre, check out Wicked, Moana 2, or any of the other movies out now! Happy watching and of course, Happy Thanksgiving!
